Milky Way Arches Over Lake Tahoe Night Sky

This wide-field astrophotography image captures the Milky Way galaxy arching across the night sky above the Lake Tahoe region of the Sierra Nevada. The galactic core and its characteristic dust lanes are visible as a diffuse, luminous band cutting diagonally through the center of the frame, surrounded by thousands of individual stars. A soft greenish-gray airglow is visible toward the lower portion of the image, and a faint light dome from a distant settlement appears at the lower left. The image was taken with a Canon EOS R6 Mark II and the RF 15-35mm f/2.8 L IS USM lens, wide open to gather as much light as possible in a single long exposure. The scene conveys a profound sense of isolation and cosmic scale, characteristic of dark-sky locations in the Sierra Nevada.
