Monday, May 25th, 2026 at 8:45:50 AM · 2026/Mt Lassen Volcanic National Park
This wide-field astrophotography image captures the Milky Way galaxy stretching horizontally across the frame above Mt. Lassen Volcanic National Park. The galactic core and its characteristic dusty lanes are visible as a subtle luminous band amid thousands of pinpoint stars scattered across an inky black sky. The image was shot with a Canon EOS R6 Mark II and RF 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, allowing for excellent light gathering in low-light conditions. The upper right corner shows a hint of dark tree silhouettes, grounding the cosmic scene in the terrestrial landscape. The overall exposure reveals impressive star density and faint nebulosity, suggesting excellent dark sky conditions typical of this remote national park.
