The vegetation includes what appears to be sea thrift (Armeria maritima) and other salt-tolerant succulents typical of Pacific coastal headlands. A dense marine layer or fog bank fills the background, creating a flat, cool gray sky that emphasizes the dramatic silhouette of the rock formation. The telephoto compression from the 100-500mm lens with the 2x extender brings out remarkable textural detail in the rock's fractured surfaces and the delicate clusters of small white and pink blossoms.
