Vibrant Purple Sea Stars Clinging to Tidal Rocks

Two large purple sea stars (likely Pisaster ochraceus, the ochre sea star) are photographed in close detail at a rocky intertidal zone during low tide. The animals display their characteristic knobby, reticulated texture with white spines contrasting against their vivid purple-pink coloration. The sea stars are nestled among wet rocks, pebbles, seaweed including what appears to be kelp and rockweed, and shallow tidal pools. The photograph was taken with a long telephoto lens (RF100-500mm) which allows for an impressively compressed, intimate macro-like perspective on the animals. The setting evokes the rugged, biologically rich character of the Pacific Northwest coastline.
