Pelicans Soaring Over Rugged Pacific Coastline

A flock of approximately 15-20 brown pelicans flies in a loose formation over a gray, overcast Pacific Ocean, with two or three birds slightly ahead forming a leading group. Below and to the left, a dark rocky sea stack or islet is densely colonized by what appear to be Brandt's cormorants and other seabirds perched along its ridgeline and slopes. The ocean surface is choppy with whitecaps breaking against the rocks, suggesting breezy coastal conditions typical of the Northern California or Oregon coast. The overcast sky casts flat, diffuse light across the entire scene, giving the image a moody, windswept atmosphere. The pelicans' wide wingspans and characteristic silhouettes are clearly identifiable despite the considerable shooting distance.
