Killdeer on Muddy Ground at Drakes Beach
Saturday, January 24th, 2026 at 11:38:48 PM · 2026/Drakes Beach Elephant Seal Pups
A small shorebird, identifiable as a killdeer by its characteristic double black chest bands, stands on muddy, partially vegetated ground. The bird's white breast contrasts sharply with its brown upper parts and black markings. The habitat appears to be coastal wetland or beach area with sparse green shoots emerging from sandy-mud substrate. The lighting suggests either early morning or late afternoon, creating good definition of the bird against the natural background.
