A magnificent giant green anemone is captured in stunning macro detail as it spreads its translucent green and white tentacles in a shallow rocky tide pool. The anemone's vivid green coloration — caused by symbiotic algae (zoochlorellae) living in its tissues — glows brilliantly against the dark, wet rock surface. Surrounding the anemone are dense clusters of dark-shelled California mussels (Mytilus californianus), with small multicolored pebbles and barnacles filling the crevices of the intertidal zone.
