A large elephant seal lies on sandy beach terrain, its massive body sprawled across the sand. The animal's distinctive features are clearly visible, including its bulbous nose (proboscis), deeply wrinkled and scarred skin with a bluish-gray coloration, and powerful flippers. The seal appears to be resting or molting, a common behavior for these marine mammals when they come ashore.
