A large intertidal boulder at Schoolhouse Beach is dramatically exposed during low tide, revealing a thriving multi-zone marine community. The upper portion of the rock is densely carpeted with dark California mussels (Mytilus californianus), while the mid-intertidal zone below hosts clusters of giant green anemones (Anthopleura xanthogrammica) in shades of pink and green, alongside two vibrant ochre sea stars (Pisaster ochraceus) in orange and tan hues. Surrounding seaweed — including kelp and sea lettuce — drapes the adjacent rocks, while choppy grey waves break in the background under an overcast sky.
