Solar Chromosphere in Stunning Hydrogen-Alpha Detail

This exceptional Hydrogen-alpha solar image captures the Sun's chromosphere at 656.3nm wavelength, revealing a wealth of fine detail invisible in white-light photography. Prominent dark filaments — suspended channels of cooler plasma — snake across the solar disk, particularly notable in the central and lower-center regions. Bright plage regions and active area complexes are visible, indicating zones of intense magnetic activity, while fiery solar prominences arc dramatically along the limb, most visibly at the lower edge. The granular texture of the chromosphere's supergranulation network and mottling is rendered in remarkable sharpness across the full disk, thanks to lucky-imaging stacking and 2x drizzle processing. The image was acquired with a Lunt LS60THa 60mm f/8.3 Hydrogen-alpha telescope, ZWO ASI585MM monochrome camera, and Sky-Watcher EQ6 tracking mount, processed as a multi-exposure HDR ladder stack.
