Markarian's Chain: M84 and Neighboring Galaxies in Virgo Cluster
Saturday, March 21st, 2026 at 5:06:37 PM · 2026/Astrophotography
This astrophotography image showcases M84, a prominent elliptical galaxy in the Virgo Cluster, along with multiple neighboring galaxies forming part of Markarian's Chain. The image was captured using a TMB-92 APO refractor and ZWO ASI533MM Pro mono camera with narrowband filters (SII, Ha, OIII) and broadband filters (LRGB). The 3.8-hour integration time reveals the subtle structures and interactions between these distant galaxies against the rich star field. The SHO palette processing combined with broadband data creates a detailed view of this galactic congregation approximately 60 million light-years away.
