NGC 6992 - Eastern Veil Nebula in SHO Narrowband
Thursday, April 16th, 2026 at 3:07:50 PM · 2026/Astrophotography
This is a detailed narrowband astrophotograph of NGC 6992, the Eastern Veil Nebula, part of the larger Veil Nebula complex in the constellation Cygnus. The image was captured using an SHO (Sulfur-Hydrogen-Oxygen) palette, mapping sulfur to red/orange tones, hydrogen-alpha to yellow/orange, and oxygen to blue/purple, creating the striking false-color representation. The delicate, wispy filaments trace the expanding shock wave from a supernova explosion that occurred thousands of years ago. The image represents 2.1 hours of total integration time using a combination of narrowband filters (SII, Ha, OIII) and broadband LRGB filters, processed with Python and Syqon Starless AI for star removal.
