Black-necked Stilts Wading in Shallow Wetland Waters

Two Black-necked Stilts stand in shallow wetland waters surrounded by reeds and dried vegetation. These distinctive shorebirds display their characteristic black upperparts contrasting sharply with brilliant white underparts, and their notably long, bright red-pink legs. The calm water creates mirror-like reflections of both birds and the surrounding marsh grasses. The birds appear to be foraging in the muddy shallows, a typical behavior for this species. The natural wetland habitat with its mix of water, mud, and vegetation provides an ideal setting for these wading birds.
