Giant Green Anemones Resting in Tidal Pool Rocky Shore

Two giant green anemones are photographed at low tide, their bodies contracted and tentacles folded inward as they conserve moisture while exposed to air. The left specimen displays a vivid fluorescent green coloration from symbiotic zoochlorellae algae living within its tissues, while the right appears more tan/brown with a lighter oral disc, suggesting different light exposure or algal symbiont composition. Both anemones are heavily encrusted with sand grains, shell fragments, and small pebbles adhering to their column walls — a characteristic behavior that helps camouflage and protect them when exposed. The rocky intertidal setting shows surrounding mussels, barnacles, and dark wet rocks typical of a Pacific Coast tide pool environment.
