Moonlit Starry Sky Over Forest at Mt. Lassen
Monday, May 25th, 2026 at 3:58:13 AM · 2026/Mt Lassen Volcanic National Park
This wide-angle night photography shot captures a stunning starfield above the silhouetted and moonlit trees of Mt. Lassen Volcanic National Park in Northern California. The moon, partially obscured by a large pine tree on the right side of the frame, creates a soft halo of light that illuminates the reddish-orange foliage with a warm, otherworldly glow. Stars are clearly visible across the deep blue-black sky, with what appears to be a faint meteor streak visible near the top of the frame. The composition frames the open sky between clusters of trees including deciduous and coniferous species, creating a natural border around the celestial display. The long exposure technique brings out the depth of the night sky while preserving the ambient moonlight on the trees.
