Hydrogen-Alpha Sun Reveals Solar Chromosphere in Detail

This stunning hydrogen-alpha image of the Sun was captured using a Lunt LS60THa 500mm f/8.3 telescope paired with a ZWO ASI585MM monochrome camera, processed through a 4-level HDR exposure ladder with lucky-imaging stacking and 2x drizzle. The golden-toned solar disk reveals the chromosphere in extraordinary detail, with complex filament channels and active region plage visible across the surface. Several sunspot groups are faintly discernible as dark punctuations amid swirling chromospheric structure. The solar limb glows a vivid red-orange, punctuated by multiple prominences — arching plasma structures extending into the corona — particularly prominent along the lower-right and bottom limb. The HDR processing technique successfully balances the bright disk detail against the fainter off-limb prominences, yielding a technically impressive full-disk solar portrait.
