Common Raven Perched in Lichen-Covered Oak Tree
Saturday, May 30th, 2026 at 3:04:49 PM · 2026/Mt Diablo Camping - Juniper Canyon
A large Common Raven (Corvus corax) is perched among the lichen-encrusted branches of what appears to be a blue oak or valley oak tree, characteristic of the Mt. Diablo State Park landscape in California. The bird is shot from below, creating a dramatic low-angle perspective that silhouettes the raven's glossy black plumage against a bright blue spring sky. The raven's powerful curved beak and intelligent eye are clearly visible as it gazes alertly into the distance. Soft green spring foliage and white blossoms are visible in the background, suggesting late spring conditions consistent with the May 2026 date. The lichen covering the branches adds texture and a sense of age and wildness to the scene.
