This intimate wildlife photograph captures a large adult elephant seal lying beside her much smaller, dark-colored pup on a beach. The mother seal appears pale beige with smooth skin, while the pup is distinctly black. They rest peacefully on sandy terrain dotted with small stones and debris. In the soft-focused background, several seabirds can be seen standing near the water's edge, adding depth to the coastal scene.
